Welcome to RenegadeC's Booth!
This booth is completely focused on "The Ascension of Vigil".

Updates!
- Well QExpo closes within an hour of myself writing this; I just wanted to say it's been fun as always, I realize now I'm obsessed over finishing TAoV and making it a swell fun game/product/whatever that I don't really contribute to actual Quake itself anymore which is a shame, really (in terms of speed modding or helping out websites, whatever else). Anyways, I just wanted to say TAoV will be finished not too long from now! Gameplay is done practically, I'm connecting the maps, and I just need to code a few more entities, tweak the levels, balance everything out, and play test like crazy and update a few graphics.
Before I release it, I'm going to beat it myself 3 times over in order to ensure that flaws are minimal if any - I expect a play time of atleast 6 hours (if you're good) ... after TAoV? I'm thinking of going down the survival horror route; like Envenom - but better.
See you next QExpo!
- RenegadeC ...
- I've practically finished the new "Castle Entrance" map, contains some funky new camera angles! A lot more maps are connected now because of this which makes me happy. I've uploaded a ton of new screenshots for you all.
- Added two new screenshots of a new map currently in development, titled: Castle Entrance.
What is it?
The Ascension Of Vigil is a 3D Side Scrolling Beat 'em Up / Fighting Game / RPG / Platforming / Adventure Game all mixed together, it has many cool features such as:
- Fully standalone, Quake is not required! This game extracts into it's own directory
- Fully graphical 2D menus
- An intelligent camera that tracks the action dynamically complete with zooming features and fun camera tricks
- Grab enemies upclose and beat them personally
- Slice enemies right in half with powerful attacks
- Smack your dead opponents around in mid-air
- Wall Grabbing similar to the Ninja Gaiden series
- RPG traits such as a leveling up / experience system
- Blocking & countering, block an enemy attack then deliver your own in return
- Combo Counter, the game tracks how many hits you've successfully performed in a row! battle for who can achieve the highest combo, or rack up even larger combos in multiplayer
- 4 Player Internet / LAN cooperative support
- Evasive maneuvers, double jumping in midair to avoid enemy attacks and recovering from a fall with a backflip
- A magic system rarely seen, featuring 5 devastating and useful spells and is similar to Guardian Heroes system for easy access and casting
- Air combos! A feature never done before in a Quake mod, and on ground combos are included as well .. they're flashy similar to XBox Ninja Gaiden
- 14 enemies, knights, dogs, barons, skeletons, horrors, gaunts, hell knights, arch ghouls, wraiths, electric squids, ghouls, ghosts, archers, gremlins, plus more enemies are being added constantly
- Screen filling special effects and supported transparencies
- A few levels to play around in, more are underway
- Has it's own unique gameplay; fast, skillful and furious
- Story is explained inside the game (leave the title screen waiting until the music is finished playing)
- Use the enviroment around you, grab ledges and hoist Vigil up similar to Prince of Persia or run along walls and more
- Completely redone hit detection system, the Quake engines wasn't good enough so a new one has been written with help from Sajt & LordHavoc using only QuakeC!
- Enemy AI has been written from scratch and they are very smart with support for different enemy behaviors; each enemy has their own strengths and weaknesses!
- Optimized loading times, each level only loads what's neccessary cutting down load times on Dreamcast
Overall, this is just a constantly improving game for you people to play with, in the end you can expect a game as crazy as Guardian Heroes for Saturn and as fun as any other new-age game while requiring skills for kicking butt! If you're starting out learning you can expect to lose pretty early until you figure out your enemy - it's simply defined as a show of skill, fast reflexes, and prediction on sight .. especially on hard mode.
I wanna see it!
1. Vigil air combos a knight
2. Vigil is smashed into the air by a Baron's attack

5. Vigil's wall running diving swallow attack kills an enemy
6. Vigil's jump kicking in the beginning of an unreleased MAP 02
7. Vigil leaves the village towards the castle
8. Vigil running up a hill towards still towards the castle
9. Vigil enters a room requiring a gold key to access the castle!

11. Vigil kicking all sorts of ass on the final bridge to the castle!
12. Vigil counter attacks some enemies after getting past the gold key room
13. Vigil and the Baron are first introduced
Screenshots do not show The Ascension of Vigil in its full glory, it's a lot better to see it in action as it contains a lot of special effects and unique hand done animation and moves very quickly and fluidly too.
Is it finished?
Sadly no. However, it's coming near completion! The gameplay itself is completely finished and the only thing left to do is some minor tweaking and also levels then connecting them together in order to have one large world to explore in a Metroid-type fashion. I also regularly post updates on its progress here.
Oooo, am I able to play it?
Yes, I'm designing TAoV as a free download for every version which comes out! This allows everyone to beta test it and give feed back on what can be improved or whatever new features should be added; as well as allowing anyone to see how changes and developments can change a game in development! Quite the learning experience.
